  • Pre-Wedding Pictures

It was good meeting Marios and Stephanie again prior to their Wedding in London in June.  A glorious day in Hyde Park, more of the same please on their Wedding Day!London-Wedding-Photographer-Hyde Park

  • English Toastmasters Association

It was a privilege to be invited to join the English Toastmasters Association for their St Georges Day meeting at the County Hotel, Chelmsford, Essex. The meeting was for networking, training and helps promote working as a team when we are working together on a Wedding or Event.

Thank you to Dave Court who managed to surprise me with a Diplome de Sabreur – which in reality is taking the top off a champage bottle with a sword. Great fun! Thanks to Kevin Pengelly for photographing the moment.

  • Wedding Photography Article, Daily Mail today

Interesting Article on page 3 of the Daily Mail today regarding what they refer to “Are these the worst wedding photos ever taken?” The answer to that is an easy no – we have seen worse! Having said that they are definitely not shining examples of professionalism or editing!  If a picture is that far out of focus or is a completely missed shot (yes it happens) then the photographer should not have shown those to the client.

Sadly, the paper does not seem to have asked either of the main bodies for Professional Photographers the MPA or BIPP for an opinion.

Of course we only know what The Mail tells us which can only be part of the story and of course they do have a slightly old fashioned opinion because the couple do not HAVE to stand next to each other in every shot – having said that those pictures are still no better!

I would like to know why the couple who put so much importance on their pictures seem to have done so little reasearch on the qualities of their Photographer! At £750 I guess the photographer was what we refer to as a ‘weekend warrior’, ie somebody doing weddings to earn a bit on the side but not their full-time job. They probably only had basic training and I can only imagine were unqualified.

As Members of the MPA or BIPP we work within a code of conduct, have had our work assessed and are seeking even higher Qualifications.

If your Wedding Photography is important please check out carefully the Qualifications, Awards and Testimonials of your Photographer (and if you like them as people!)- there is a Victorian saying which roughly goes; “better to have paid too much than not enough. When you pay too much you risk losing a little money, when you pay too little you risk losing everything, if what you bought was not capable of doing what you wanted”

  • Wedding Photography for Claire & James at Gosfield Hall, Essex

It was a beautifully warm, bright, sunny day for Claire and James’ Wedding Day at Gosfield Hall. Claire and her Bridesmaids were getting ready in The Queens Apartments, which made for some lovely photographs, whilst James and his Best Man and Ushers were getting ready in The Kings RoomsApartments.  Following the Civil Ceremony, Claire, James and their Guests went outside to enjoy the Drinks Reception, allowing us to capture the relaxed atmosphere of the day.  A few requested family photographs were taken after a little while, followed by another break for everyone. With so many photographic opportunities provided at Gosfield Hall, we try to use a variety of them throughout the day.  We took a short walk around Gosfield Hall with Claire and James for their Bridal Portraits before finishing with some fun Bridal Party and confetti pictures.  Following the Wedding Breakfast and Speeches and some evening pictures of Claire and James we covered the First Dance and a few informal pictures before leaving them to continue the end of their special day.Wedding Photo - Gosfield Hall, Essex

  • Styles of Photography

Styles of Photography available in the wedding photography market:-

Standard – Lots of group pictures and straight forward often unflattering Bride & Groom pictures.

Classical – carefully arranged formal pictures making everyone look their best before the picture is taken. You and you guests may need patience.

Reportage – capture the action without interfering with the couples day (often now called ‘Documentary’ as Reportage sometimes has a poor reputation). When we see great examples of ‘Documentary’ wedding photography it is often because the couple have been coached before the day in what is expected!

Lifestyle – lots of Photoshop to mess up the colours and give the pictures a ‘modern’ look. Couples in natural (not always flattering) poses.

We like to think of our Wedding Photography as contemporary Story telling. We are happy to capture real action if it looks good but we are also happy to encourage ‘moments’ to happen! Family groups and Classical pictures are usually required but do not have to take the whole day and we work in a fairly informal way. By photographing our couples at some point during their Engagement they are generally more relaxed on the big day and understand how we would like them to stand to make them look their best. Why not contact us and see what a whole wedding looks like?
