  • Review of the Year 2011

Well, it’s that time of the year again when we draw breath long enough to think about the fun, laughter and lovely people we have met during the year at our various Professional Photography events.

Weddings – our Weddings this year turned out to be mostly slightly closer to home and were constrained to Essex, Suffolk, Kent and Hertfordshire -2012 will involve longer distances!.  Some great clients who we hope will stay in contact. Our new system of pre-planning albums caused a little confusion early on but now we are explaining it better it seems to be very popular with our couples.

Wedding & Portrait Photographers International, Las Vegas – David had the ‘chore’ of attending what is becoming a bi-annual event at the WPPI convention. A great chance to study for 3 days with Jim Garner who is one of the worlds top Wedding Photographers, together with networking with many other fine Photographers from around the world. Another ‘Accolade of Excellence’ in the International Print competition put the icing on the cake!

We also had a good year helping to organise events for our local photographers group on behalf of the MPA and BIPP. It was a great pleasure to join a number of members of our group on the Buxton workshop where we tried out some new ideas.

We could not review our year without congratulating our friend Kevin Pengelly who achieved his Fellowship Qualification in Wedding Photography. A fantastic achievement.

I guess we should award our ‘photograph of the year” but as some of our favourites are currently entered in competitions maybe we had better hold on that!

So Thank You everybody who helped us in 2011. We look forward to 2012 and meeting many old and new friends and clients.

    Happy New Year!

  • Wedding Photography for Emily & Andy at Hadleigh Town Hall, Suffolk

It was a pleasure to be asked to photograph Emily and Andy’s Wedding as we first met Emily when we photographed Kate (Emily’s sister) and Aaron’s Wedding at Crabbs Barn in 2008.  It was a dry day when we joined the girls at Emily’s parents’ house for the getting ready pictures and after taking a few pictures we left to go to Hadleigh Town Hall.  The marriage Ceremony took place in the Council Chamber and Harvey and Amelia, Emily and Andy’s children, were a very special part of this.  After the Ceremony, Guests socialised in the Guildroom, where we also took some requested family group pictures as a shower stopped us from going outside.  The rain did stop and despite being a bit chilly, we took some fun shots in the Gardens with the Bridal party, followed by going for a short walk for Emily and Andy’s pictures.  The Wedding Breakfast was held in The Old Town Hall and the food was wonderful.  The evening Reception was held in the Grand Hall and after capturing First Dance pictures and Emily and Andy’s final pictures we said our goodbyes.  Thank you to Helen and John for making us so welcome and being part of a very enjoyable day.Wedding - Hadleigh Town Hall, Suffolk

  • Wedding Photography for Jenny & Michael at Priory Hall, Hadleigh

Jenny and Michael chose the stunning Priory Hall, Hadleigh, for their Wedding.  Jenny was getting ready at The Crown, Stoke-by-Nayland, where we photographed  her final preparations with her family and Bridesmaids.  One of Jenny’s Bridesmaids was Chloe, whose parents’ Kwok and Andrew’s Wedding we photographed at Le Maison Talbooth in 2007, and it was nice to meet with them again and Chloe for the first time.  Michael and his Grooomsmen were at Priory Hall so when we arrived at Priory Hall we photographed them before Jenny arrived for the Civil Ceremony in the wonderful Tudor Hall.  After the Ceremony we altered our plans due to a short shower just as we were going to do the family group pictures so we captured some informal pictures instead.  Once the shower passed, the sun returned and we carried on with Jenny and Michael’s family group pictures.  A short while after we took Jenny and Michael around the fabulous gardens for their pictures.  During the evening we took some pictures of the evening Guests, First Dance, ending our coverage with evening shots of Jenny and Michael.Wedding Photo - Priory Hall, Hadleigh

  • 10 years of Digital Photography

While looking for some pictures for a client, I have just realised that we have been digital photographers for 10 years  – where did that go!!

Our first camera was the Nikon D1x which we bought for £3500 in 2001, although it had been ordered in 2000 when it was first announced. Not an insignificant sum of money and quite a gamble on what was a relatively new technology. We used the camera for portraits and wedding candids in the first year, the full digital conversion would not be until September 2002.

There was a huge learning curve not only for the photographic side but also for the computer work afterwards and we are still learning!!

I remember thinking how we would save a fortune in film and processing costs not realising that we would use a significant amount more of our time and a huge investment in computing and ancillary equipment and of course camera upgrades!  So why did we continue if we were not saving money? Control is the answer, everything is now controlled in house and is printed just as we want it, the improvement in quality for our clients has been fantastic. The thought of trying to use film again brings me out in a cold sweat!!

  • Wedding Photography for Jodie & George at Stoke-by-Nayland Hotel

Jodie and George chose the Stoke-by-Nayland Hotel, Leavenheath, for their Wedding Ceremony and their Wedding Reception.  We took Jodie’s final preparation pictures at Stoke-by-Nayland, and followed this by taking pictures of George and his Groomsmen in a different part of the Hotel.  After a lovely Ceremony, we took a trip in the golf buggies with Jodie and George to the Lake where we took some relaxed Bride and Groom portraits.  The family group pictures were taken on the Terrace after the couple enjoyed a break with their Guests.  We completed our coverage for Jodie and George’s Wedding with First Dance photographs.  Jodie and George love Motocross so it was thoroughly enjoyable to see them a couple of days later and photograph them with the Bike at Wivenhoe Quay in their Wedding clothes!

  • Wedding Photography Testimonial – Smeetham Hall Barn, Bulmer

    To David and Sandra

Just wanted to say a huge Thank You to you both.  Your services on, before and after our big day were first class.  Your work on the day was stunning and you worked alongside everything perfectly, not being obtrusive or in the way.  You made us both feel completely at ease and we have wonderful photos to show for this.  All our guests commented on the photography and I’m sure the orders you’ve received prove this.  We will be recommending you to to everyone!  Thanks again.

  • Wedding Photography for Kate & David at Belstead Brook Hotel, Ipswich

We were pleased to be the Wedding Photographers for the Wedding of Kate and Dave.  After taking a few pictures of Kate beforehand we went to St Andrews Church, Rushmere, Ipswich, for the Ceremony.  All the Guests appreciated the warm sunshine whilst we took a few essential pictures before moving onto Belstead Brook Hotel in Ipswich.  Once Kate and Dave had a drink with their Guests, we took them for their pictures to the Brook and achieved some lovely relaxed photographs.  During the Wedding Breakfast the Guests were entertained by a Basil Fawlty Impressionist which created genuine smiles which was excellent material for our cameras.

  • Wedding Photography for Louise & Kieran at Smeetham Hall Barn, Bulmer

After heavy rain in the morning of Louise & Kieran’s Wedding Day, we were wondering what the weather was going to be like for the rest of the day!   Although the rain had stopped, unfortunately the garden was rather wet when we wanted to do take Louise’s getting ready pictures, which was a shame, as Louise’s Dad had put so much effort into getting it to look nice.  Despite that we got some really nice shots of Louise inside the house on the stairs.  Following the Civil Ceremony at Smeetham Hall Barn at Bulmer, the sun was shining and it was very warm, which was good as Louise and Kieran had booked Matt Benecci Ice Cream Company, which went down a treat!  Following a few group pictures we were able to take the Bride and Groom, as well as the Bridal Party, for some informal pictures around the lovely grounds of Smeetham Hall Barn.  Our day concluded with a few pictures of Louise and Kieran in the early evening.
