    Street Photography

What do photographers do to unwind? – Go and take some pictures of course!  A great trip to London with a friend Ivan Finch, who is another professional photographer. After a sensor clean at The Leica Store, Mayfair (thanks Leica!) we walked through London looking for interesting parts of life, the street performers, people working, people at cafes and families on holiday. Street Photography is a great observational practice and I certainly don’t claim to be an expert, it’s just for fun!Street Photography - David Islip

I use my discrete Leica M9 camera for Street Photography. A camera that encourages a photographer to think about the pictures that are wanted, especially as it does not have auto focus!  Black and white seems to suit so many of these observational pictures – of course I did a few colour pictures but I liked these best. My particular favourites are the men talking at the ice-cream stall and the businessmen taking coffee. That’s enough of a  Cartier-Bresson moment, now back to the weddings…….

  • Osea Island wedding

    Osea Island wedding

We are photographing an Osea Island wedding in a few weeks time so today we took the opportunity to visit and see the location ahead of the big day.

Osea is a private Island in the Blackwater Estuary near Maldon, Essex.

    Osea Island

Osea Island is connected to the mainland by a mile long causeway only passable at low tide.

The access is so restricted it is easy to see why it is such a popular spot for celebrity parties. It looks like it will also be a fantastic wedding venue and we are very much looking forward to becoming Osea Island wedding photographers.

  • Prested Hall Wedding Photography for Anna & Chris

Prested Hall Wedding Photography – It was an early start for us arriving at Anna’s Parents’ home for the preparation pictures.  It was a beautiful day, and preparations were well underway. After capturing the getting ready shots, it was time for a few pictures in the garden which Anna’s Dad had worked so hard on to provide a nice backdrop.  It was sunny and very humid so we took the garden pictures as quickly as we could! Essex Wedding Photographer David and I then left to go St Nicolas Church, Witham. Chris and his Groomsmen were at the Church when we arrived and we managed to take a few pictures of them in between their duties.  It wasn’t long before Anna arrived, driven to the Church by her Dad in the E-Type Jag. With all the Guests in the Church she made her way up the path and into the Church with her Dad followed by the Bridesmaids. During the service there was an almighty downpour which was quickly followed by brilliant sunshine!  At the end of the Ceremony, Anna and Chris led their Guests out of the Church for some requested family photographs. Once these were finished everybody made their way to the gate for the confetti pictures, before leaving for the Reception. Wedding Photographer Essex Anna and Chris wanted some pictures with the car along the driveway to Prested Hall, which we were happy to do.  Timings were perfect, us arriving, getting set up just as they turned into the driveway.  It was a great fun session with Anna and Chris also rehearsing (without music!) their dance steps for later, with us getting the fun images we wanted.  Anna and Chris then joined their Guests for the Drinks Reception whilst we took a few informal pictures. A little while later as we were starting to organise the everybody picture, the rain made another appearance!  The Wedding Breakfast beckoned!  After the meal, we covered the Speeches, which was then followed by a second attempt at the ‘everybody’ picture with more  success this time!  Before the start of the evening celebrations and the arrival of their evening Guests, we took the happy couple for a short walk around the grounds of Prested Hall for a few relaxed pictures.  Being a day of good but mixed weather, they ended up with a brilliant sunset picture as well as a rainbow picture!Wedding Photographer Essex Essex Wedding Photographer Later Anna and Chris’ s rehearsed First Dance wowed their Guests before they joined them on the dance floor.  It was nice to see familiar family members again. An amazing Wedding!

  • Abstract photography

Had a great day learning about abstract photography from Mike Curry who I respect as a photographer of landscape and abstracts. We spent time around London’s Greenwich, Canary Wharf and the O2 Dome area mostly looking for abstracts but also photographing a few conventional views also. One thing is certain in photography, there is always something else to learn about and a different way to see things!

  • Fennes Moon Rising!

We work regularly at Fennes but are always looking for something new. Last year we created the heart shot on the stairs (which is now regularly copied by others!). This year we have been trying to find something a little different particularly with the Fennes bridge. A couple of weeks  ago we were about to finish for the night when I noticed the moon rising behind the bridge – a opportunity not to be missed!  Not perfect but we like the result. Always something new to see….. and yes the moon was actually rising at that point it is not a Photoshop invention!

  • Professional Photographer on a day out!

Professional photographer on a day out! Before the wedding season gets into full swing, it was great to spend a day out with local colleagues Dave Court and Kevin Pengelly to visit a group of other professional photographers in Belfast. The day started with a trip around the murals in the estates most affected during ‘The Troubles’.  The Crown in Belfast provided the scene for lunch – a beautiful watering hole, owned by The National Trust!  A tour of the Titanic Exhibition and photographs of the Harland & Wolff yard filled the afternoon. The evening was spent in the company of Stanley Matchett MBE who has been a press photographer in Belfast since the 1960’s and provided a fascinating talk and picture show. All in all a fantastic day giving a great insight to Belfast.professional photographer day out
